چکیده

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding co-products with Optigen ® II on animal performance and blood metabolites in growing beef calves. Angus steers were allowed ad libitum access to bahiagrass hay and were supplemented for 42 d via Calan gates. Treatments included 1) dried distillers grains; 2) dried distillers grains + Optigen; 3) soybean hulls; 4) soybean hulls + Optigen. Amounts of dried distillers grains and soybean hulls were formulated to be isonitrogenous. On d 42, there were no treatment differences for steer

Effect of protein supplementation on ruminal parameters and microbial community fingerprint of Nellore steers fed tropical forages.

In tropical regions, protein supplementation is a common practice in dairy and beef farming. However, the effect of highly degradable protein in ruminal fermentation and microbial community composition has not yet been investigated in a systematic manner. In this work, we aimed to investigate the impact of casein supplementation on volatile fatty acids (VFA) production, specific activity of dea...

Evaluation of Optigen II® as a Source of Rumen Degradable Protein for Mature Beef Cows

Cattle consuming bahiagrass pastures in Florida are often deficient in crude protein. The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of two protein supplements (Urea and Optigen) as compared to cows receiving no protein supplementation (Control) while consuming bahiagrass hay. Optigen II® (Alltech, Inc., Nicholasville, KY) is a slow-release nitrogen source. The delayed availability of nit...

The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of monensin (MON), thyme (THY) and cinnamon (CIN) essential oils on dry matter and crud protein degradability characteristics of cottonseed meal, barley grain and corn silage, nutrient digestibility, and some plasma metabolites in Holstein steers (540 ± 35 kg initial BW) fed high-concentrate diets. Four rumen fistulated Holstein steer...

Effects of Dried Distillers Grains + Condensed Distillers Soluble Supplements (Sweetpro® Products) on Measures of Growth and Apparent Diet Digestibility in Forage-fed Yearling Beef Calves

Four experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of dried distillers grains + condensed distillers solubles (DDG+CDS) supplements on measures of performance of beef heifers, and apparent dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and crude protein (CP) digestibility of beef steers. In Exp. 1, heifers supplemented with DDG+CDS blocks (SweetPro; SP) for 42 d had lesser free-choice sup...

Urea metabolism in beef steers fed tall fescue, orchardgrass, or gamagrass hays.

Two experiments were conducted to assess effects of endophyte treatments (Exp. 1), forage species (Exp. 2), and supplementation (Exp. 2) on urea production, excretion, and recycling in beef steers. Infusion of (15,15)N-urea and enrichment of urea in urine samples were used to calculate urea-N entry and recycling to the gut. Acceptably stable enrichment of (15)N-urea in urine was obtained after ...
